Downtown Walk-About - A treasure hunt in the historic Downtown/Strand District. Walkers visit 25 participating merchants in the area for the chance to win wonderful prizes. - (DATE TBA)

ARToberfest - Postoffice Street Arts & Entertainment District. This fine arts festival features visual and performing arts. Booths showcase established and new artists, as well as students from area school art classes. Live entertainment and fun for the entire family. (DATE TBA)

Chihuahua World Cup - Gulf Greyhound Park. See these pint size speedsters strut their stuff in this world class event, as hundreds of area Chihuahuas take to the track. (DATE TBA)

Veteran's Day - Monday, November 11th

Thanksgiving - Thursday, November 27th (holiday rates apply)

Annual Landry's/San Luis Official Galveston Holiday Lighting Spectacular - Festive holiday music fills the air, thousands of dazzling lights and pyrotechnics illuminate the sky and Santa Claus makes a surprise visit to the Island during this traditional holiday lighting     spectacular. Join carolers, bands, bell ringers and more for the official kick-off to the holiday season. The evening highlights include the lighting of a 35-foot tree. - Friday, November 28th

Galveston Harbor Parade of Lights - Celebrates the holiday season with lighted boats of all sizes as they travel through the historic Port of Galveston. Historic Downtown/Strand Partnership - Friday, November 28th

Festival of Lights - Moody Gardens - December through early January

A Victorian Christmas - Hosted by the East End Historic District, offers tours of beautifully decorated private historical homes as visitors are carried from home to home by horse-drawn carriage. - (DATES TBA)

Dickens on the Strand - the Southwest's happiest holiday celebration, fills the streets with costumed characters, glittering parades, exciting entertainers and unique vendors as the Galveston Historical Foundation recreates Queen Victoria's London. - (DATES TBA)

AREA TOUR GUIDE

 

Galveston and the surrounding areas (San Luis Pass, West Galveston, Clear Lake and Kemah) are great for relaxing, playing, even learning!  Galveston is rich in history.  From recounting the great Storm of 1900 to touring the old mansions along Broadway, there is no shortage of activities for the history buff!  If shopping is more your style, be sure to visit the wonderful galleries and shops along The Strand and Postoffice Street districts.  Dress codes are extremely casual in the area.  Shorts and sandals are acceptable attire almost everywhere, but be sure to confirm if you plan to visit a Galveston nightclub or exclusive restaurant or hotel.  Here are some great ideas for you - whether you want to stay active for all or just a part of your vacation...
